The $687 million campus, which opened in November 2012 and employs roughly 2,800 people, consists of 1.5 million rentable square feet of manufacturing, laboratory, office and warehouse space that sits on 174 acres. As the manufacturer of non-nuclear components for the U.S. nuclear stockpile, the KCNSC is part of the U.S. Department of Energy’s larger nuclear security enterprise, responsible for manufacturing and procuring nonnuclear components for nuclear weapons, including electronic, mechanical, and engineered material components supporting national laboratories, universities, and U.S. industry. The KCNSC is one of the first LEED Gold manufacturing campuses.

The U.S. General Services Administration, acting as the federal government’s broker, signed a lease agreement with CenterPoint Zimmer, LLC, for the new campus in 2010.
